Paralympics Comes To Sainsburys Fosse Park

On Saturday 5th November, Paralympian Kenny “Mooseman” Churchill visited Sainsburys Fosse Park with four young reporters. They held a Community Media Cafe in the cafe area as part of Citizens Eyes Community Media Week.

Kenny was in store to raise awareness of himself and the upcoming London Paralympic Games. With Kenny wearing his Team GB tracksuit and three gold medals, the young reporters armed themselves with cameras, flip cams and dictaphones to photograph and interview Sainsburys customers and colleagues. Many Sainsburys customers got the chance to have their pictures taken with Kenny along with his medals.

While there, Kenny’s supporting army grew bigger as he became even more popular with local Leicester and Leicestershire families. The young reporters made signs saying “We support Kenny for 2012!” for customers to hold while having their pictures taken.

As Sainsburys is a tier one sponsor for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the young reporters were on a mission to find out what the Paralympics mean to the Sainsburys staff and how they felt to be a part of such an important and undoubtably incredible sporting event. They got a mixture of opinions surrounding the Paralympics and were eager to hear whether or not the Sainsburys staff thought that society treated the Paralympics as equally as the Olympics.

Laid out on a table in the cafe was Kenny’s Union Jack flag which he is going to be taking to the London Games with him. He was asking customers and colleagues to sign his flag full of good luck wishes ready for London. He received a huge amount of interest from the public and staff about himself, what he previously won his three gold medals in and generally about London 2012 itself. A lot of the young people whose families were shopping at Sainsburys were incredibly joyed about being given the chance to wear Kenny’s medals and getting to meet the Mooseman himself.
